Sorry, Georgia Tech. And yes, it is kinda personal. But not for the reasons you would think; at least, not tonight.

I will be rooting for the CLASS ACT that is Coach Frank Beamer tonight. I have been blessed to visit Virginia Tech on two occasions. What he has done there, the commitment he has to that fine institution, and the deep care and respect that the community holds for him are truly testaments to something greater than the game of football. He is there what Bobby Bowden is to FSU, Bear Bryant is to Alabama, and Bud Wilkerson is to OU.

I wish he could go out on a higher note. But I respect his decision that it is time. He looks tired, ready to relax, and enjoy life. Make no doubt that he loves Virginia Tech and Hokie nation loves him back. Those kids will be playing hard for him I pray.

Former Falcons cornerback De Angelo Hall said it best and I totally concur.

“Coach Beamer has been so much more than a football coach to me and a lot of other guys. We still talk to him to this day. I was definitely sad about it, but I know that he’s kind of ready to be done with this chapter in his life and move on to being a grandfather, getting back in his kids’ lives as a father. It’s definitely tough. I didn’t think it was going to happen. I kind of [heard] whispers of it and didn’t think it was going to happen this soon, but I got calls from him and other coaches on the coaching staff kind of telling me what’s going on. I wish nothing but the best for him.”

Congratulations on a job well done, Coach. Good luck and God Bless!!

For the first, and I hope only, time– I decided to delete a comment that offered no football information, but rather served only as blanket scorn to Tech. Not trying to censor an opinion; rather trying to operate within the common definition of what constitutes ‘trolling.” For more information:
Admittedly, the deletion was my judgment call as Cage admin, and I’m open to cries of ‘foul.’ But more importantly, it shouldn’t be up to an arbitrary standard of an administrator, whomever they may be, in screening comments. That’s why standards are published by blogs– so everybody knows in advance the rules. Here’s one example:
Does the Cage need to publish its own guidelines? We’ve embraced respectful convo without the need for guidelines so far. What say you?

Did not see the “foul” but totally trust your judgement. Do what you feel is in the best interest of the integrity of the Cage.

Jeez not one comment on here in 2017 for the Bugs? Amazed by their success considering their failure year after year in recruiting talent. Guess Ole Turkey Neck can coach some.
